A group of a collective that includes at least one clinician eligible for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), distinguished by a composite of the group’s Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), the subgroup identifier, and the National Provider Identifier (NPI) of each qualified clinician.
Eligibility:
- The determination of eligibility for clinicians who wish to participate and register as a subgroup can be done by using the first 12 months of the 24-month MIPS determination period, as finalized in the CY 23 Rulemaking.
- As per the previous eligibility, every subgroup is required to have at least one clinician who is eligible for MIPS.
Subgroup Registration:
To report an MVP, healthcare providers are required to register beforehand. The registration period is between April 3 and November 30, 2023.
If the option of selecting subgroup participation is chosen, then the following information must be provided for every subgroup.
- Enumerate healthcare providers belonging to the subgroup who have at least one MIPS-eligible clinician in their individual capacity.
- A name in simple language to describe the subcategory (that will be utilized for public disclosure on Care Compare).
- An explanation of the makeup of the subgroup.
- It was determined that a clinician can only enroll in a single subgroup per TIN.
