MIPS Eligibility determination may change each Performance Year (PY) due to changing policy of QPP CMS.
Practice/ Provider eligibility status is based on:
- National Provider Identifier (NPI)
- Associated Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs).
When a Practice/ Provider has been reassigned their Medicare billing rights to a TIN, then their NPI becomes associated with that TIN. This association is referred to as a TIN/NPI combination.
If a Practice/ Provider has been reassigned their billing rights to multiple TINs, then that Practice/ Provider will have multiple TIN/NPI combinations.
QPP CMS evaluate each TIN/NPI combination for MIPS eligibility and use TINs to evaluate practices for eligibility.
